Long-distance almost destroyed us before it made us stronger

Shared anonymously·August 25, 2026

What happened

We spent eighteen months in two different countries and two different timezones. The first six months, we fought about everything, especially nothing.

What I wish I knew

Distance amplifies whatever was already there. Small unresolved things become huge on video calls.

What helped me

A weekly 30-minute call with a fixed agenda: one appreciation, one worry, one plan.

What I would tell someone going through this now

Do not romanticize suffering. Have a plan for how the distance ends.

A quiet reply

Have you been here too?

Your response tells someone they aren't alone. It isn't a like.

Someone else's experience just met you where you are.
